It was hard news, but seeing how I could barely move due to the exhaustion and muscle fatigue, I agreed. My body was not ready. If that tick bite when I was 10 is the culprit, that means that Lyme bacteria had almost 27 years to build ranks, break down my immune system and open the door to chemical, mold and metal sensitivity, among other things.
Last week, I began IV's and lactated ringers, for hydration. The nutritional IV's were ordered by my doctor to help support my body enough to handle treatment for Lyme Disease. My doctor's office has an IV suite, complete with comfy recliners and the best IV nurse around. It is scary and never any fun to sit around with a needle in your arm, but as far as crappy medical stuff goes, I've experienced MUCH worse.
After my doctor decreased my dose, I really didn't feel any relief. It wasn't until I started these IV's that my energy increased and the brain fog lifted a bit. I have been a bit more functional this week. I still have fatigue, brain fog, electrical shocks when I climb stairs, anxiety, heart palpitations, pain and my many other symptoms, but the symptoms have definitely decreased somewhat in severity and for that I am grateful.
At $120 a visit, I won't be able to continue them, but hopefully what I've done these past two visits has helped build me enough to move forward with treatment. According to my doctor, because of how I responded to the low dose Doxycycline, I have - and I quote - "a very, very, very, very, very high bacteria load." I will still get worse before I get better, since the die off will still cause herxing, an increase of symptoms due to the bacteria dying off and releasing copious toxins into my system. I still have many other medications to take to eradicate (or at least greatly minimize) Lyme bacteria and co-infections. And the treatment will still take many years, most likely. But, it is nice to have this little break, this a respite before jumping into stronger, more aggressive treatment.
Thank you to all who have offered support. You are amazing and I am so grateful to you!
Until next time...
